Chamber Chatter

Wow, what a busy start to the year! Besides working two of the Chamber yearly events we've been spending the past month preparing the Membership Directory for print and finalizing the new Chamber Map which has been completed and can be picked up at the Chamber office.

As many of you know Cecilia was out of the office the last three weeks of January for some well deserved R&R. I'd like to thank all those members who provided an extra helping hand at events and just called to 'check-in' on us. We really appreciate your kindness!

President's Message

January was a busy month for the Chamber. The Chili cook off provided those that attended some great food and was a wonderful social time. The Community Forum that the Chamber hosts was a very informative evening. The participants' were very well prepared and made excellent presentations.

The Chamber is starting the planning process for the Waynesville and St. Robert wide Christmas open house for 2010. The plan is to have a weekend where all business could show case their business. The idea is to let everyone know what we have to offer. Please contact the Chamber if you would like more information or would be willing to assist in the planning process. To make this a success, we will need everyone's participation.

Your Pres.,

Mike Dunbar

President's Message

If you've been to an event hosted by the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber in the last few years you've undoubtedly spotted the bright blue jackets and wondered to yourself who are those people? They are members of the Chamber's Ambassador Club and while a great deal of mystery seems to surround them their mission and purpose are quite clear. They are the Chamber's secret weapon, an army of champion volunteers.

These leisure travel shows are geared towards people that have a great interest in canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Our primary markets are Kansas City, St. Louis, Wichita and Chicago. The Bureau also partnered with the Pulaski County Outfitters Association for the Columbia, St. Louis, and Collinsville, Illinois outdoor shows.

Governor Nixon's State of the State address January 20, 2010 focused on legislation that could stimulate job creation through the implementation of four economic development legislative measures.
The "Missouri First", is a long overdue financial incentive to help existing business. In the past new incentives primarily where established to attract new business.
The second measure is one I started hearing about last year. The MOSIRA initiative will reinvest a small part of taxes paid by existing bio-tech firms in Missouri, to recruit new ones. The bio-tech industry is a target industry for Missouri.
